MAINE MENDOZA STARSTRUCK BY REGINE, MIKEE, DONNA

Though Maine Mendoza is a rising star, being the other half of the hit love team “AlDub” with Alden Richards, she has always been a fangirl at heart.

Yaya Dub shared her fan moment while watching Regine Velasquez’ concert, “R3.0,” at the Mall of Asia Arena.

She shared a picture from the concert where Velasquez wore a gold gown and the lights shone brightly onstage.

The first concert I went to was Ms. Regine’s. I was I think around 10 years old,” she wrote of her first brush with Asia’s Songbird.

My family were (sic) seated on the general admission area and I can still remember how amused we were even if we were super far from the stage.

But tonight, I was fortunate enough to watch the Asia’s songbird live again—and this time up close!” she shared.

And one of her favorite parts? “Sobrang saya ko din to see the DoReMi trio!!!!!!! Binugbog ko yung katabi ko sa tuwa lol.

Do Re Mi” is a ’90s film starring Donna Cruz, Regine Velasquez and Mikee Cojuangco. The three reunited for Velasquez’ concert.

Joining them was Velasquez’ 5-year-old son, Nate, who has shown an affinity for music.

Cojuangco thanked Mendoza for her kind words and quipped, “Minsan gusto ko ring bugbugin si Donna sa gigil ko sa kanya… Keep smiling Maine, you are gorgeous!

Buo na yung linggo ko,” said a starstruck Mendoza, who also wished a remake of their movie.

DoReMi have remained friends since their movie, with Cruz and Cojuangco expressing support for their friend.

I look up to you as a ‘true artist’ and just as an amazing person and extraordinary human being!” exclaimed Cruz to her songstress friend.

Cojuangco also thanked their fans. “Hindi niyo po alam kung gaano niyo kami napapasaya at nai-inspire. We are so very blessed and honored.”

38-YR-OLD SHOW IS MAINE MENDOZA'S CONFIDENCE BOOSTER

What has actress Maine Mendoza learned from “Eat Bulaga!,” the long-running noontime show that will celebrate its 38th year on July 29? “It has taught me to believe in myself,” the actress told the Inquirer. “It helps boost my confidence. I realized I could accomplish things I didn’t think I was capable of doing.

Bulaga’ encourages me to try out different things and pushes me to ‘stretch’ beyond my perceived skills.

NADINE LUSTRE DECLARED BY MEN'S MAGAZINE AS 'SEXIEST WOMAN'

Nadine Lustre is crowned as FHM’s sexiest woman of 2017.

The men’s magazine unveiled the news on its social media pages on Thursday. The 23-year-old actress was handpicked by fans through the “100 Sexiest Women” poll that ran until June 16.

Joining Lustre in the magazine’s top ten were Kim Domingo, Rhian Ramos, Jessy Mendiola, Ellen Adarna, Jennylyn Mercado, Angel Locsin, Liza Soberano, Maine Mendoza and Solenn Heussaff.

Last year, it was Mendiola who bagged the throne as FHM’s sexiest woman.

When asked about her reaction, Lustre kept her feet on the ground and thanked her supporters for making it happen.

Thank you po. And of course, sa FHM,” she told ABS-CBN. “I’m really happy and I’m really proud.

MAINE—STILL A RELUCTANT ACTRESS

Despite having done movies and a soap opera, Maine Mendoza still describes herself as a “reluctant actress,” who still feels unsure about the idea of growing old in show biz.

I haven’t planned that far ahead yet. If I stay longer, good. If not, that would also be fine with me,” she told the press in an interview for CDO Funtastyk Young Pork Tocino, which she endorses.

According to the 22-year-old star, at times she misses having a more “normal life.”
That’s why she’s thankful that her management gives her schedule enough breathing room, so she could still spend quality time with her loved ones.

Sometimes, you look for the kind of life you were used to. But now I’m here, and it’s a new experience,” she said, adding that her second year in the industry has been more relaxed than the first. “My management knows that I have to spend time with my family and friends at least once a week.

And so far, Maine already feels “fulfilled” with what she has achieved: “I’m thankful for all the experiences I have had, and the dreams I’ve realized. If, one day, all these get taken away from me, that’s all right—I’m not too afraid.”—ALLAN POLICARPIO

NADINE STILL TOPS FHM 'SEXIEST' POLL BUT MAINE COULD PULL UPSET

Nadine Lustre remains the frontrunner to win the online poll for FHM Philippines' annual list of the "100 Sexiest Women in the World," but latest results released Friday show some significant movements.
Kim Domingo has jumped from 5th to 2nd, indicating a surge of votes for the model-turned-actress, and the entry of Maine Mendoza, who is known to have a huge devout following, in 10th place could likely set her up for a surprising come-from-behind win.
Other new entrants include "Wildflower" star Maja Salvador and Andrea Torres. The three new faces meant that Marian Rivera, who has won the title a record 3-times, Arci Munoz, and last year's winner Jessy Mendiola exit the list.

ABS-CBN's prized stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla surely know how to make a grand entrance as they lead this year's list of YES! 100 Most Beautiful Stars.

WINNING BLOCK? NADINE DENIES POCARI PLAYERS A KISS FROM JAMES REID

Members of the Pocari Sweat volleyball team haven't seen a defense as stingy as Nadine Lustre's.

During Saturday's "Showtime," Vice Ganda offered the Lady Warriors a kiss from James Reid in exchange for the P20,000 the team won in the game Cash-Ya.

But Lustre, Reid's on-screen partner, was quick to block the proposition. "Hoy, hoy, hoy! Ano 'yan?" Nadine joked.
Vice Ganda then quipped, "Sampu kayo? No. 1 ito sa FHM," a reference to the poll conducted by the men's magazine, a poll that Lustre won.

ALDEN RICHARDS, MAINE MENDOZA SHARE SWEET KISS AT 'EAT BULAGA' STUDIO

Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza brought lots of kilig to the audience when they gave each other a sweet kiss during Eat Bulaga!'s live episode yesterday, October 21.

The two Dabarkads finally gave in to the long-request of fans for them to kiss, and they did so after the successful airing of Love Is, the Kapuso noontime show's telemovie starring them.

Minutes before they kissed, Alden and Maine were asked to give their own definition of what love is.

Maine answered, "Ever since, simple ko lang dini-define yung love talaga. Hindi naman siya nag-iba ngayon. Love is caring."

She then made a reference to the character she portrayed in Love Is, "Di ba nga, nung sinabi ni Viviene na, 'Love is opening your heart to someone na gusto kang intindihin, handa kang tanggapin nang buong-buo. Simple lang."

Alden pointed out how his character Marco never gave up on his girlfriend who suffered from clinical depression.

"Love is walang iwanan. Kumbaga, it applies to everything. Wala nang explanation yun, e."

Eat Bulaga! co-host Ruby Rodriguez chimed in, "Kaya nga kapag kinakasal, 'Till death do us part.'"

Pauleen Luna then teased Alden and Maine to give each other a kiss, "Parang pag may kinakasal din kailangan may kiss."

Ruby added, "Kasi puro sa TV namin nakikita, e. O pupuwesto kami ng nanonood, ha."

By this time, the studio audience had gone wild with excitement and began cheering on the AlDub love team to kiss.

Alden and Maine smiled, then gave each other a quick kiss on the lips.

TELEMOVIE ON OVERCOMING DEPRESSION. Directed by Adolf Alix, the telemovie Love Is tells the story of Viviene, a hard-working associate creative director who has a bright future ahead of her.

Not only is she given the chance to head a new project at her office, she is also engaged to her loving boyfriend Marco.

However, her life is suddenly turned upside down when her father suffers a heart attack and becomes partially paralyzed.

She also gets scammed by a cousin and loses all her savings, which had been set aside to cover her wedding expenses.

Viviene loses track of her goals as she and her family face mounting debts. She breaks up with Marco, whose family thinks she is going crazy because of her depression.

The turning point is when she almost takes her own life to end her misery.

Marco comes to the rescue right before she is about to overdose on un-prescribed pills.

It is Marco who convinces Viviene to seek help from a psychiatrist.

Coupled with love and support from her parents, Viviene is able to rise above the storms in her life.

And with that, marami ang nag-worry for Liza dahil she’s so young pa to get into such stage.

Hindi ba nila sinaway si Enrique sa kanyang tinuran because this will surely affect Liza’s image. She’s perceived to be very young ang inexperienced and with the term “parang mag-asawa na” leaves a bad impression sa public.

Is he aware of the repercussion nito? It’s not even a part of a promo ng isang Bahala sila kung ayaw nilang i-correct ito. This is subject for debate.

Pumapayag naman si Liza and her family with that statement of Enrique?

Speak up, Liza, Ogie and Star Magic.

ENRIQUE GIL SHARES NEW DETAILS ABOUT UPCOMING SERIES '#BAGANI'

MANILA – Enrique Gil returned to the Philippines from Hong Kong on Sunday to tape their upcoming television series "Bagani" which will air early next year.

Para siyang bayani. It’s the story about how the Philippines, ‘di ba archipelagic tayo, how the Philippines was born. It’s about our culture,” he said about the series, which will also feature superheroes and super powers.

Dishing more about his character, Gil said: “[Superhero ako] at ang pangalan ko po doon ay si Lakas. Diet diet na lang muna habang walang time mag-work out.

According to Gil, his co-actors on the show include his regular partner Liza Soberano, Sofia Andres, Dimples Romana, Makisig Morales, Matteo Guidicelli and Albert Martinez among others.

Gil was in Hong Kong to attend a special screening of his movie “Seven Sundays” with the Filipino community in the former British colony.

In an interview with DZMM, Gil said he felt the genuine emotions of those who watched the film with him and the experience made him more proud to be part of the Star Cinema drama.

Siyempre it’s a different feel kasi bihira lang sila makapanood ng movies natin and to see artists din. It’s a humbling experience to be here,” he said.

Mararamdaman mo talaga how much they miss home. Iba sila kaysa sa Manila. They are more attached. It’s a very humbling experience. They work so hard here, malayo sa pamilya. Kaya grabe din sila umiyak kasi randam nila 'yung mga eksena,” he added.

Asked of his personal takeaway from the movie, Gil said “Seven Sundays” made him realize that he should put more effort to be closer to his mother.

Sometimes we take it for granted because we know they are always there. They are not going to be there forever. A little extra work won’t hurt. It will actually be good for you,” he said.

JAMES REID TO REUNITE W/ GIRLFRIEND NADINE LUSTRE FOR FANTASY FILM

James Reid is getting good breaks these days.

He is Sarah Geronimo's co-star in the Philippine remake of the Korean movie Miss Granny.

James confirms this during his ASAP Chillout session.
He says, "I'm excited that soon we're gonna have a movie together."

But before fans get overly excited or agitated, the 24-year-old actor says he will be playing the grandson to Sarah's character.

The original 2014 movie Miss Granny revolves around a 74-year-old widow who suddenly finds herself inside the body of a 20-year-old woman, played by Korean actress Shim Eun-kyung.

Should the producers of the Pinoy remake follow the original story of Miss Granny, James is the grandson that is a member of a heavy metal band.

James also reveals that they've already started filming, and that the movie might open in cinemas before the end of 2017.

A week before the announcement, James and Sarah did a production number together in ASAP, where they performed Louis Tomlinson's "Back to You."

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had previously reported, in an article written by contributor and veteran reporter Jojo Gabinete, that James would play the grandson of Sarah in the movie.

NADINE IN PEDRO PENDUKO FILM. In another good break coming his way, James will soon be working again with real-life girlfriend Nadine Lustre.

They are set to top-bill a movie produced by Viva Films.
According to another article written by Jojo Gabinete and published in Abante, the JaDine movie project will be directed by Barry Gonzalez, who helmed Ella Cruz and Julian Trono's latest movie Fangirl/Fanboy.

The JaDine loveteam will be joined by new VIVA Artist Marco Gumabao.

And in still another good break, James is also set to top-bill a modern adaptation of Pedro Penduko, to be shown next year.

The ABS-CBN actor has started training for his character in the fantasy movie to be directed by Dan Villegas.

Nadine is also expected to be in this movie about a popular Pinoy komiks character.

This was confirmed by Viva Entertainment through a video released in its official YouTube channel. Paul Basinilio, identified in the video as a director, was quoted as saying, "Si Nadine, kasama din siya."

Through its Instagram account, Viva Entertainment also showed James during his first day of training for Pedro Penduko

Entitled “Yup, I’m that Girl,” Maine’s wish is to have her book out for the public by the end of October.

So what can her fans expect from her book?

In an interview, she described, “Personal book ko siya. Basically it’s about my life, lessons and experiences.

According to her, her book was five months in the making. And whether she had a hard time writing it being a private person, she said yes.

I’m that type of girl that wears her heart with her sleeves. Parang nasanay na rin ako since I own a blog. I write din naman talaga. Ever since naman, I’ve expressed myself thoroughly through writing. I’ve shared that with the public. Since di na ako nakakapag-post sa blog ko, dito ko na binuhos sa book ko,” she shared.

Maine Mendoza rose to stardom first on social media with her Dubsmash antics then later on was cast as a regular in “Eat Bulaga.” When she and Alden Richards became the AlDub loveteam in the show’s “Kalyeserye,” they were catapulted to the stature of Philippine icons.

It has since then been a busy showbiz career for Maine with Alden. After their tandem in GMA7’s “Destined To Be Yours,” and the movies “My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore” and “Imagine You and Me,” they will be in “Love Is,” which is an “Eat Bulaga” film for television by award winning filmmaker Adolfo Borinaga Alix, Jr. airing on October 21, 2017.

With regards to their movie wherein news surfaced that they were already training for it, she hinted, “We’ve trained before in Muay Thai and boxing. Pero nag-uusap pa rin and meetings. Siyempre gusto ng management na magandang maganda ’yung project.

As a brand ambassador, Maine’s endorsing projects are growing. Just recently she was tagged as the face of Kamiliant travel luggage. The first venture of the brand in the Philippines, Maine also is their first celebrity endorser.

According to Samsonite Philippines Country Head, Ciely Buenviaje, Maine was perfect for their brand.

ALDEN RICHARDS PRAISED BY FANS, NON-FANS, FOR 'BRAVE' PORTRAYAL OF MARTIAL LAW ACTIVIST

Alden Richards drew praise when he starred as activist Bonifacio Ilagan in the TV feature “Ang Alaala: A Martial Law Special”.

GMA Public Affairs produced the special documentary to commemorate the 45th year since President Ferdinand Marcos first declared martial law.

Bonifacio Ilagan is a screenwriter who was tortured under the Marcos dictatorship. He wrote the short film himself to narrate his account of martial law.

The film’s production is featured within the documentary that includes interviews from those who actively opposed martial law.

Richards played a young Boni, an activist who would be captured and tortured. More painfully, his sister Rizalina would disappear without a trace.

Netizens praised the actor for his performance, with many thanking him for using his “talent and influence to educate people.”

Ilagan’s daughter Dey thanked the actor for his work:

You bravely took the role for people to see a glimpse of the horrible past,” said another Twitter user.

His acting chops were also praised: a fan said the torture scene was “too unbearable to see.”

Another said they could no longer distinguish between Richards and his role:

The “AlDub” actor himself described shooting as “Physically, psychologically, emotionally, mentally, mahirap,” he told Bandera.

Some saw it as a “wake up call.”

Hope this encourages more personalities to speak up against martial law atrocities. We need louder voices,” said one Twitter user.

His conviction also gave him new fans:

Actors Gina Alajar, Bianca Umali and Rocco Nacino who were part of the cast also helped bring Ilagan’s narrative to life.

Under martial law, Filipinos were stripped of human rights and were at the mercy of the Philippine Constabulary. At least 75,730 cases of human rights violations during the Marcos administration have been filed under the Human Rights Victims Claims Board (HRVCB) by May 2015.

JOEY DE LEON APOLOGIZES FOR COMMENT ON DEPRESSION

Eat Bulaga host Joey de Leon on Friday apologized for his comment on depression.

During the "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment on Friday, De Leon said he was wrong in minimizing the effect of depression.

"Nagkamali po ako," the TV host admitted.

Nagkamali po ako," he said.

De Leon made the comment on Thursday on Eat Bulaga's "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment after a contestant said she has depression.

The TV host on Friday said his wife and children talked to him and told him that stress and depression are different.

"So, tungkol po sa depression na nabanggit ni Maine, eh pinagalitan ako ng misis ko, si Eileen. Pag-uwi ko pa po, pinaliwanag niya at pati 'yung mga anak namin, sinabi, 'Daddy, hindi stress 'yan at depression.' 'Hindi, 'yun ang alam ko eh. 'Yung iba 'pag nawalan lang ng boyfriend, nade-depress.'"

De Leon admitted feeling guilt when he learned that some of their loved ones are also suffering from the condition.

"So nagga-ganu'n pa ako, pinaliwanag niya. Lalo akong nahiya sa sarili ko nang banggitin ni Eileen na may malalapit kaming mahal sa buhay na nagdurusa sa ganu'ng kalagayan."

"So ako'y nanghihingi ng paumanhin sa mga napaitan sa mga nabanggit ko at humihingi ng inyong unawa."

On Thursday, a contestant on the show said, "Ang sabi lang po ng doktor, depression, tapos 'yung katandaan kasi makakalimutin na po."

But Maine Mendoza said those suffering from depression need moral support.

"Pero hindi biro 'yan ha, 'yang depression. Hindi siya joke. Hindi, kasi siyempre maraming nakakaranas ng ganu'n lalo na sa mga kabataan. Kaya dapat kapag may nakakaranas ng ganun, bigyan natin ng suporta," she said.

"Hindi, hindi, huwag niyong suportahan, gawa-gawa lang niya 'yun," De Leon rebutted.

"Nagpapa-sosyal lang," the TV host added.

Apology to Maine Mendoza

The TV host also apologized to Mendoza for his remarks.

"Kagabi, tinawagan ko si Maine. Nag-sorry ako kay Maine agad dahil siya 'yung nagbanggit nu'n sa usapan naming tatlo sa depression. Medyo nakaluwag 'yung paghinga ko. Hirap na ako matulog hanggang hindi umaabot itong pagkakataon na ito."

De Leon said he learned of the broad discussion regarding depression after his wife explained to him the topic.

"Kung may maidudulot mang mabuti 'yung aking pagkakamali, sana mabuksan ang maraming pinto sa pagtalakay sa issue na ito. Hindi ko alam na ganu'n kalawak at kalalim pala iyon. Akala ko, stress lang."

De Leon reiterated his apology.

"So uli, humihingi po ako ng kapatawaran sa mga nasaktan, nagalit. I'm sorry at may kasabihan naman tayo na, 'Mapait man ang ugat ng karunungan o edukasyon, karaniwan namang matamis ang binubunga nito,'" he said.

"'Yun lang po at maraming salamat po," De Leon said. (With Jamil Santos/KG, GMA News)
